Docent Program

Purpose and Activity

As a docent, you will be trained in delivering state-of-the-art educational tours. Successful applicants to the docent program agree to a two year minimum commitment, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, and participate in continuing education. A docent is a volunteer tour guide or gallery teacher. Docents assist in creating the vitally important bond between the public and the art in our galleries. Docents engage visitors in interactive experiences that give them a new appreciation of the arts.

Qualifications

To perform this job satisfactorily, a volunteer must be able to perform a variety of duties such as those listed below. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The individual must meet a certain standard of maturity and must be able to provide patrons with courteous service and a high level of customer service.

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Communicative and attentive
  • Able to work independently
  • Willing to engage with the public
  • Flexible
  • Able to exercise good judgment
  • Able to present information in one-on-one situations
